What is Pilates?

You may well have heard about the benefits of Pilates without really understanding what is involved. Pilates is used to improve your core strength (key in protecting the spine), and to remove imbalances within the body which may predispose you to injury.

At Thorn Performance, pilates is only taught by a Physiotherapist who really understands each individual client’s body and is specifically trained through the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute) in injury rehabilitation to ensure a safe and effective programme. Pilates can be taught on a 1:1 basis, in class or in small groups. We teach Matwork pilates only at Thorn Performance, using a variety of small equipment such as balls, bands and rollers.

Before attending any of the classes we recommend that each participant has a 1:1 assessment to ensure correct core contraction as well as completion of a pre-pilates screening health questionnaire.

All classes are held at the studio and numbers are limited to ensure specific attention to each client. We book our classes in blocks (5-8 weeks) as well as on a drop in basis to ensure you receive good continuity of care and great results.

We hope to re-launch face-to-face pilates classes at the new premises on 17th May 2021.
