Clinic Re-Opening & Looking Ahead at Our "New Normal"
At Thorn Performance we have been busy working away in preparation to re-open the physiotherapy clinic on Monday 6th July 2020.
Things are going to work a little differently for all of us now and so I wanted to make sure that you are as informed as possible when making the decision to come and see us for a physiotherapy appointment.
Firstly, I want to reassure you that we hold our duty of care over both our patients and staff as our first priority.
We want to make sure that we get this right, and so have been taking our time to put the appropriate steps in place so that we are confident that we can provide care to you safely, without compromising the standard of treatment you are used to receiving from us.
So what have WE done in Clinic?
We are working closely with CrossFit Lutterworth to ensure a safe access through the gym to the physiotherapy room. This will be in the form of a non-touch entry, sanitiser stations and one-way walkway through the building, with at least 2m social-distancing between the walkway and any gym-space in use. This will keep the gym staff and members safe too.
Toilets are accessible on request to Thorn Performance patients, however we do ask that you inform your physiotherapist if you have used the facilities to ensure that we are able to sanitise the area after every use.
Once inside the physiotherapy studio you will notice that all soft-furnishings and excess equipment have been removed, and that there is a hand sanitiser and mask station immeditely on entry to the room.
There will be a forehead thermometer at the sanitisation station too. We ask that you allow us to take your temperature on arrival. If your temperature is elevated we will ask that you kindly reschedule your session.
Your physiotherapist will be wearing a mask, gown and gloves throughout your session. This PPE will be changed after every patient.
As the Thorn Performance studio is large, we will be taking advantage of the space around us and keeping a 2m distance between you and us whenever we are able to - e.g. when talking to you, observing your movement, and demonstrating exercises, or during acupuncture treatment after insertion.
Close-proximity (less than 2m) and physical contact will be necessary for treatment interventions such as massage, manual therapy and application of acupuncture. We want you to be able to receieve the same quality of treatment that you are used to from us, this is why both you and your therapist will be wearing PPE.
We ask that payment is made either prior to your session online or via contactless. If this is unavailable to you, you may pay by card. The card machine will be wiped down after each use.
The treatment area and any equipment used will be sanitised between every patient. We will be allowing extra time between appointments to allow for through cleaning and airing out of the room.
What is expected of YOU?
Before your appointment is confirmed you will be have a "Triage Appointment" via phone from to go through some Covid-19 and other health screening questions, to discuss the suitability of a face-to-face appointment for you and to discuss your individual needs along with any specific queries and requests you may have.
You can book a 10 minute telephone triage appointment online. There is no charge for this.
If you are already have a virtual physiotherapy appointment booked and wish to book a subsequent face-to-face appointment, this triage can be done during your virtual appointment.
As part of your triage it may be decided that a combination of virtual and face-to-face appointments is best suited to you. This will allow us to minimise the total time spent in close proximity, therefore reducing the risk of transmission, but without reducing your overall treatment quality.
You will be asked to fill out two online forms before your face-to-face appointment: Covid-19 Screening Questionnaire & Consent to Face-to-Face Treatment
To minimise cross-over we ask that you do not arrive early to your appointment time, and that you wait either in your car or in the car park. The sofas in the waiting-area within the gym will not be usuable at this time.
We will ask you to notify us of your arrival via our new Online Check-In procedure and will contact you via text to let you know we are ready for you.
We will be temperature checking you on your arrival with a non-contact forehead thermometer. If your temperature is elevated we will kindly ask that you reschedule your appointment.
If you suddenly become unwell before your scheduled appointment please let us know so that we can reschedule your session.
We ask that you wash your hands or sanitise for at least 20 seconds, and then put on the disposable mask that will be given to you. We ask that you use the provided mask for the duration of your treatment with us, removing your own mask (and gloves) if you have brought one with you.
Please leave any non-essential items such as large bags and coats in your car.
After treatment you may dispose of your mask in a special PPE bin, and then wash and/or sanitise your hands again.
You will then be able to exit the physiotherapy room back into the gym, and follow the one-way system to exit out of the side door to walk around the outside of the gym back to the car-park.
All re-booking information and exercises will be sent to you via email.
Due to the extra cost of PPE we will be requesting a small PPE fee of £2 in addition to your standard consultation fee.
All of these steps have been put in place to ensure your safety in returning to treatment with us. We will be regularly reviewing the changing goverment legislation and governing bodies advice, and changing our protocols to reflect this.
Thank you for taking the time to read and understand this - we welcome any feedback on how we can further improve our care to you going forwards!
Take care and stay safe,
Head Physiotherapist & Clinical Director
