Re-Opening for Face-to-Face Appointments & Risk Minimisation: What you can expect from us
At Thorn Performance Physiotherapy we are busy behind the scenes preparing for a return to face-to-face practice. Plans are underway to ensure that we are going above and beyond to keep our clients and staff safe as we transition into the next phase of healthcare provision, with a goal of resuming limited face-to-face appointments on 1st July 2020.
Firstly, it is important to emphasise that a return to face-to-face appointments does not mean "business as normal". As with life outside of our clinic doors, we will be adjusting to a "new normal" in the way that we work together with you, our patients.
Under the current CSP guidelines private physiotherapists are only permitted to see patients who:
Are deemed as "urgent". This means either your physiotherapist needs to assess you for a serious pathology or that you are experiencing acute deterioration of a life-threatening condition, and that if you did not receive physiotherapy care, your condition could require hospital admission or urgent medical review
Require further special assessment by a physiotherapist, as the clinical picture of your injury is unclear from virtual assessment (e.g. neurological testing by the physiotherapist)
OR, who are:
Key workers, who are being prevented from working due to injury
Recently discharged from hospital
At risk of presenting to A&E or GP
At risk of requiring a new or increased social care package
who cannot have their needs, treatment and/or follow-up met by virtual consultation
So, let's say you fulfil the above criteria, what next?
You must first receive a remote consultation (via phone or online) from your Thorn Performance physiotherapist to go through COVID-19 screening questions; to assess your need for face-to-face physiotherapy or medical referral, discuss whether your condition could be managed virtually and your treatment preferences.
You will then be asked to fill out a COVID-19 Questionnaire (sent via email) stating:
neither you or any household members are displaying any symptoms or are required to isolate
details of shielding or pre-existing medical conditions
your consent to face-to-face physiotherapy acknowledging the (low) risk of transmission
With this complete you will be booked in for a face-to-face appointment at the Thorn Performance Clinic.
